A First Nations great-grandmother is living alone and facing significant challenges due to poor health, social isolation and the impacts of elder abuse and family and domestic violence. Despite her resilience and positive outlook she has no family supports available and struggles to manage everyday tasks maintaining her safety and keeping her home warm and comfortable.
Living with mobility issues including diabetes, arthritis, chronic kidney and liver conditions she finds it increasingly difficult to meet her daily needs independently. Economic hardship has further impacted her ability to purchase essential household items, heating, cleaning supplies and other necessities that would improve her health, comfort, and wellbeing.
Proud of her First Nations heritage, she remains connected to her culture and finds purpose and joy in crocheting. However, the effects of trauma, declining health and ongoing isolation continue to place her at risk and make daily living more difficult.
