These four young people are living with the lasting impact of complex and intergenerational trauma. Removed from their parents and now in Kinship Out of Home Care, their early lives were shaped by instability, chronic neglect, family violence and exposure to unsafe environments, including drug use. These experiences have left deep emotional and developmental scars, contributing to ongoing psychological distress and vulnerability.
Despite these challenges, their carers are providing safety, consistency and a nurturing environment, working tirelessly to help them heal. They are intentionally building strong cultural connections through art, storytelling and shared experiences, helping the children develop identity, belonging and pride.
Without meaningful support, the weight of trauma and disadvantage will continue to limit their opportunities. With it, these young people have a chance to heal, grow, and build a future grounded in strength, culture and hope.
