Family and domestic violence is recognised as the leading cause of homelessness for women in Australia, with approximately 45% of women and girls seeking homelessness assistance identifying violence as a contributing factor.
Like many young women leaving unsafe environments, she faces substantial barriers to securing stable and affordable housing while recovering from trauma and rebuilding her independence. National data shows that women and children make up the vast majority of homelessness service clients affected by family and domestic violence.
Despite these challenges, she remains focused on creating a positive future. Her goal is to relocate interstate where she has greater opportunities to continue her studies, gain stable housing, and re-enter the workforce.
