Recipient story

Young Aboriginal Male needs support for flying lessons. Dreams of flying high!
First Nations Support
Ready to Learn
Young person is a 17-year-old Aboriginal male pursuing his dream of joining the ADF. Ever since he was a child, he dreamt of flying. Watching planes overhead was thrilling, and he would rush outside to watch them. At 12, he couldn't fly but turned to flight simulation. Through flight simming, he made friends and learned about flying, joining a network called "Vatsim" where he interacted with Air Traffic Controllers and pilots. After years of pleading with his mum, she booked his first flying lesson, a moment he cherished. He hopes to earn his Commercial Pilot License (CPL) and fly across Australia and beyond. Coming from a single-parent family, he seeks funding for ongoing lessons at $350 per session, covering petrol, insurance, and tuition. He aims to secure $3500 for 10 lessons, with a total of 20 lessons needed for adequate flight hours. With 150-200 hours required for a CPL, Master M is eager for any support toward his goal.

How it's helped before

[We assisted] a woman who had four children in primary school this year, she shared that she was worried about ensuring they all had what they needed and felt equally included, so the [GIVIT donations] really helped to lift that concern. Some women brought their children with them [to collect donations] and faces just lit up as they chose their lunchboxes and backpacks and packed their pencil cases.
