First Nations Support
Palm Island First Nations family needing a washing machine to make life a bit easier. Mother who is a pensioner is taking care of her two grown daughters, both with permanent physical and intellectual disabilities , one is wheelchair bound. For the last 2 years she has been washing all their clothes by hand and this is taking its toll on her own health. Due to the remoteness of Palm Island, this family has not been in the receiving end of any support . Upon meeting this family, their situation highlights the need for community connection and care for our elders . A classic example of when checking in on a neighbour can reveal a home without basic necessities , a family that is forgotten from main stream society and disadvantaged in so many ways .
