A woman has survived an unimaginable act of violence that left her with catastrophic, life-changing injuries.
She was airlifted to hospital and remains in ICU following extensive treatment and complex surgery, including the surgical reattachment of her hands and fingers. She has also suffered significant injuries to her head, face and body.
Her survival is nothing short of a miracle. Yet survival is only the beginning. She currently has no functional use of her hands and fingers and cannot independently manage basic daily activities. She faces extensive rehabilitation and the challenge of adapting to a permanently changed way of life.
Her partner has remained by her side and is taking on a full-time caring role. As he is self-employed, his ability to work has been significantly affected.
They have been displaced from their home, which sustained significant damage and biological contamination. They now face a long road of recovery, rehabilitation and financial uncertainty.
