Requesting financial assistance in the form of food and fuel vouchers for a woman significantly impacted by the 2022 Northern Rivers floods. She owns her home and only had repairs completed last month through Resilient Lismore after a prolonged recovery. She also accessed her superannuation to cover additional works.
Due to complex PTSD, she was unable to continue working and has since fallen behind on her mortgage. She applied for the Disability Support Pension in 2023, which was initially denied due to missing evidence and an administrative error outside of her control. After two years, she has now been approved and is currently seeking back pay through a tribunal, which has been ongoing for over six months.
She plans to use any back pay toward her mortgage but is currently under significant financial stress. Support with food and fuel vouchers would help ease immediate living costs and allow her to prioritise mortgage repayments.
