Single woman approaching retirement purchased her dream home and property, settling on the sale only weeks before the bushfire event, with the intention of moving there to retire. Sadly, she never got that opportunity as the home was destroyed in the January bushfire event. Resident is significantly under insured as she had not yet reviewed her policy, so rebuilding is now not an option. Despite the mental trauma, and the huge financial loss, she finds herself in a position where she is ineligible for many supports, as the damage sustained was not to her primary place of residence at the time. This has left her extremely vulnerable on many levels, and at risk of severe mental and financial hardship.
