Support people with homelessness donations in Brisbane

4 min read

Brisbane is facing a growing homelessness crisis, with more families and young people struggling to find safe, stable housing. The Brisbane Zero Homelessness Report highlights an increasing number of families and young people experiencing homelessness in Brisbane. Homelessness doesn’t only include people sleeping on streets, but also living in emergency accommodations, motels, cars, and couch-surfing. Key report statistics from 1,230 families surveyed show:

  • 49% of families don’t have enough money to cover day-to-day needs.
  • 37% of children are unable to attend school consistently.
  • 31% do not have access to a shower.
  • 20% do not have access to food and water.

No adult or child should live without the necessities that support physical and mental health. Giving through GIVIT will provide groceries, school supplies and any essential items needed for Brisbane families impacted by or at risk of homelessness.

What are the leading causes of homelessness in Brisbane?

According to the Australian Human Rights Commission, domestic violence is the single biggest cause of homelessness in Brisbane and across the country. Other causes include poverty, unemployment and a shortage of affordable housing. Research conducted by Brisbane Zero shows a devastating number of families threatened with violence and poverty.

  • 68% of people left or lost housing due to violence in the home
  • 77% of families were newly identified as experiencing homelessness in FY25

Homelessness donations not only support the physical needs but also remind people going through hardship that someone cares.

Did you know 49% of those experiencing homelessness don't have people they can rely upon or who care about them?

Blankets and other winter essentials provided by GIVIT in Brisbane

Three young children in Brisbane were facing winter without enough warm clothing or adequate heating at home. Their family was already experiencing significant financial hardship and the ongoing pressure of trying to make ends meet, leaving them vulnerable during the colder months.

Thanks to your generosity, we were able to provide essential winter support to help keep these children warm and comfortable. Each child received three warm outfits, including jumpers, track pants, long-sleeve shirts, and school socks. We also provided two brand-new blankets, ensuring they now have a warm and safe place to sleep at night.

Your kindness is making a real difference in addressing homelessness and poverty in Brisbane - helping families in need stay warm, safe, and supported when they need it most.

We are very grateful to GIVIT for supporting one of our families with warm winter essentials for their three children. It has made a real difference for the family and helped relieve some of the financial stress they have been experiencing during the colder months.

Donations for people at risk of homelessness on the Gold Coast

After surviving a serious traffic crash, this man has been left with life-altering injuries that have made everyday tasks challenging. Supported by Youth Justice and Victim Support, he has been navigating recovery while also facing significant financial stress.

With mounting weekly expenses and limited capacity to work, he was at real risk of losing his home, placing him in a vulnerable position and under immense pressure.

Through your generosity, we were able to provide essential vouchers, offering immediate relief during a critical time. This simple support gave him something he had been missing—breathing space.
In his own words, “This will give us some respite, even if it’s only for a week or two.”

“GIVIT has been such a fantastic organisation ever since I have been working with them for the last few years. I have been able to support young people experiencing homelessness, victims of crime and families escaping DV. GIVIT has helped put a smile on some faces that needed it for a long time.
