Frequently asked questions

How to donate to help people escaping domestic violence

What does it mean to donate money with GIVIT?

Donating money through GIVIT means you are providing direct support to people in need across Australia. Your donation ensures people get what’s needed at the right time. It can reach someone with essentials directly after a natural disaster or those rebuilding their life after surviving domestic violence.

You can choose to donate to one of our emergency disaster appeals or community appeals, or fund an urgent request from a person or family. This means supporting a cause you really care about or helping to fulfil a practical necessity.

In the 2024–25 financial year, GIVIT delivered $9,478,241 worth of goods and services to Australians in need. During this time, we also:

  • Met a call for help every 32 minutes.
  • Delivered 414,215 essential goods and services to help people.

100% of your public donation received by GIVIT goes to buying what’s needed, but people can also choose to add an extra amount to their donation to help GIVIT cover the cost of providing the essential item or service.

Why is GIVIT the best website to donate money?

We’re a unique option for donating money because we use your donation to directly meet requests from charities supporting people doing it tough. People wanting to help can choose a personal cause or story they feel passionate about, allowing them to forge a direct, emotional connection with people and showing them how exactly their gift makes a difference.

When you donate, you:

  • Know your donation is providing vital support.
  • Give to emergency appeals or causes you care about.
  • Fund a real request from a person or family.
  • Trust that requests come from registered organisations providing timely support.

Every donation creates an immediate, measurable impact for Australians who need it most.
