Support for Mental Health, Justice Health, Alcohol & Drug Service .Our clients face significant challenges when accessing healthcare. Many arrive at hospitals with minimal resources, often having nothing but the clothes they are wearing. Typically lacking basic necessities such as food, toiletries, underwear, & additional clothing. This situation is compounded by historical & systemic issues, including intergenerational trauma, socio-economic disadvantages, & the impacts of colonisation & marginalisation.
The absence of essential items not only creates practical difficulties but also impacts their dignity & well-being. Additionally, Aboriginal people may experience a lack of culturally sensitive care, language barriers, & mistrust toward healthcare institutions due to past negative experiences. Providing support, resources, and culturally competent care can help address these issues, ensuring that they receive the necessary assistance during hospital stays.
