A 54 year old First Nations grandmother has recently relocated to a regional town after escaping severe family and domestic violence. As a result of the violence she sustained a permanent injury that led to the loss of an eye and now lives with ongoing disability and complex health needs. She holds a lifetime protection order and was forced to leave her community, home, belongings and support networks behind to ensure her safety.
Having arrived with only a small amount of personal clothing she is now rebuilding her life from scratch and requires essential household furnishings and basic home items. She is also experiencing significant financial hardship and ongoing medical challenges including mobility and breathing difficulties and has applied for a housing transfer to be closer to essential health services. Donations of furniture and household essentials would provide practical support and help restore dignity and independence as she establishes a new beginning free from violence.
