Domestic & Family Violence
A 26yo single mother relocated with her 2 young children after experiencing FDV. They are housed in Transitional housing and are rebuilding their life. Various behavioural issues for the 5yo child led to him being taken to an optometrist and it was discovered that he has a genetic defect with his vision. He is extremely far sighted and is unable to properly focus on objects close up, which contributes to some of his behavioural issues. The child requires specialised prescription glasses of approximately $280, that mum cannot afford. Not getting the glasses will result in further eye defects that may require corrective surgery, along with perpetuating behavioural issues and impairing education as he enters year one next year. The mother has to choose between paying rent, paying for groceries or paying for the glasses. She has been supported to apply for emergency relief but will require further financial support to navigate this one-off cost. We are hoping for some grocery vouchers!
