A 58-year-old veteran has been connected with our organisations since 2021, initially attending with his service dog, Summa. His engagement with our crisis hub increased in 2023 after he lost his Murwillumbah home in the 2022 Northern Rivers floods.
Support workers have assisted this client to access services to apply for the Back to Home Grant and a Pod. Although the Pod application was unsuccessful, support continued. His circumstances became even more difficult when squatters occupied his flood-damaged property and a fire later destroyed what remained of it.
Through consistent collaboration between several support organisations, the recipient secured temporary motel accommodation where Summa could stay with him. He continued engaging with these services over three years while his housing application progressed.
The client recently visited Fred’s Place to share the wonderful news that he had secured a one-bedroom unit to live in and now seeks support to furnish the unit.
