Following the major flooding event in Forbes in November 2023, the applicant’s insurance claim was declined. As a result, she and her husband were required to undertake most of the recovery and restoration work themselves, including extensive renovations and mould remediation.
During the flood event, her husband slept in a boat in their backyard to help protect the property due to concerns about looting in the area. At the same time, the applicant’s 96-year-old mother, who lives with them, was in a critical condition in hospital, adding significant stress and uncertainty for the family.
The floodwaters entered and damaged their home. Two of the three household members have additional support needs, including mobility issues, making the recovery process particularly challenging.
