Tributes from the Top End

The effects of Coronavirus (COVID-19) continue to be felt across the Northern Territory, with increasing unemployment meaning families who lived from pay packet to pay packet can no longer afford to replace essential items. Save the Children NT are working hard to help people doing it tough, with donations from our COVID-19 appeal becoming an important source of support.

Save the Children NT team kindly shared their appreciation.

“Fridges in the tropical Top End are an essential item, to keep food fresh and water cold. A woman we support had just moved into her new public housing with her young family and didn’t have one. We reached out to GIVIT and then next thing we knew a brand new huge fridge was delivered.”

GIVIT is the smart way to give to people and communities impacted by COVID-19.

Working closely with schools, health programs, charities, and community organisations, GIVIT empowers local communities, such as Save the Children NT, to request exactly what they require for the people they support. GIVIT, at no charge, then sources and coordinates essential and urgently needed items to help vulnerable people across the territory.

“More than 3,000 items of brand-new clothing arrived on our door-stop from GIVIT. We were over the moon! First we sorted them by size. This was a team effort. Then we rang other NGO’s who we knew would appreciate the clothes as much as we did. Then we delivered the clothing to Wadeye, Groote Eylandt, Katherine and across Darwin. Other NGO’s were also very happy to receive the clothing. All the women’s shelters said demand for services was high and they had run out.”

GIVIT donors also kindly provided the Save the Children NT team with equipment for their remote early childhood development program.

Wow, GIVIT have been great in helping us support vulnerable children and families. Thank you!!!
