Children and families in remote town, struggling to provide essentials. Now compounded by the Kimberley floods

Children and families in remote town, struggling to provide essentials. Now compounded by the Kimberley floods. Kids coming to school without the basic essentials for learning. Having a school bag encourages them to attend school and enables them to organise the things that they need and makes them feel valued.

Backpack

Disengaged children in a remote town are participating in an educational outreach program, offered in conjunction with the District High School, in their own neighbourhood, the "backstreets". They are actively trying to prepare themselves to enter the mainstream school. From families impacted by poverty, substance abuse, domestic violence, and intergenerational trauma, these young people struggle to meet their most basic needs. A decent youth-size backpack to carry and keep their school papers and equipment in would mean the world to them. Having a schoolbag encourages them to attend each day and enables them to organise their things, and gives them a sense of self-respect and self-esteem.
