Resident impacted in February 2024 Storm event - Struggling financially and unable to afford food as a result.
Resident was affected by the storm events February 13th. She experienced 6.5 days of power outages and was told she could not access AusNet grants. 2 weeks after the storms she was forced to evacuate her home with her 3 children, as her landlord informed her that he wanted to use the home. Resident was forced to pay extra rent for a property until her application for public housing is processed. Resident has been a victim of recent family violence, but is safe, along with her children. Resident works minimal shifts in the disability field and relies on Centrelink payments to cover her rental costs and food. She has missed out on many financial supports due to a wages threshold in the community service sector. Resident’s shifts have changed and now is missing out on a food bank service which she was using due to the extra financial stress from the storms. Resident is borrowing money from her mother at times just to pay bills and put food on the table.
