Empowering Women and Children after FDV (Family and Domestic Violence)
Domestic and family violence is a prevalent concern in Australia, significantly contributing to homelessness among women and children, This type of violence involves abusive and controlling behaviours towards partners, former partners, or family members, going beyond physical harm to include emotional and psychological abuse.
1 in 6 women have experienced physical or sexual violence from a current or former partner and shockingly, an average of one woman is killed by a current or former partner every nine days.
In 2021-2022, more than 72,900 individuals sought assistance from specialist homelessness services due to domestic violence.
This underscores the critical role our Refuge has in providing a safe haven for victims and helping them break free from the cycle of abuse. Our refuge offers vital resources such as temporary accommodation, emotional support and trauma-informed case management to empower survivors to rebuild their lives free from violence.
