Family is still trying to recover after the December '23 floods in Far North Queensland

During the December '23 floods in the aftermath of Cyclone Jasper, the family's home was flooded and they are still trying to recover their losses. The initial impact of the storm knocked out the power and the community was without electricity for 22 days. The subsequent rains (600mm in 24 hours) caused significant flooding, with one of the bedrooms, the garage, the games room and the entire garden going underwater. The flooding inside the home shorted out electricity (which was unknown at the time due to 22 day power outage), destroyed the family's refrigerator, one of their beds, rugs, toys, tools, the TV unit, shelving, and their clothes all became mouldy in the wet without adequate washing or drying facilities. Since beginning the flood recovery, the husband of the family lost his job as he was working at the local recycling centre which was washed away and the wife of the family was made redundant in her role. They are struggling to recover their home and their spirits since then.
