New Zealand citizen who has lived most of his life in Australia. Homeless, financially destitute, desperate.
Man, who is a New Zealand citizen (lived most of his life in Australia), became unemployed after an injury sustained at home. Unable to work because of the injury, 6 months of financial assistance was accessed from Services Australia which is the maximum amount unless eligible to receive a Disability Support Pension (DSP). Due to financial insecurity, homeless, alcohol misuse, and reliance on handouts to survive ensued. DSP application was not accepted due to lack of evidence - this is currently being appealed which will require ongoing support. Once (hopefully) there is an income via DSP, housing needs, social connection, and rehabilitation can be addressed.
