Disabled person relocated by February 2024 Storm Disaster
This resident of Morwell, Victoria has chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (COPD); and diabetes, both of which contribute to a physical disability that precludes them from working. They are therefore only able to receive income from government income support, and are in financial hardship.
The February '24 storm disaster resulted in their rental property being infected with black mould. The landowner of the property was unwilling to repair the damages, and instead sold the property; this forced the resident to move to a more expensive rental.
The resident also lost all stored food and medications for their diabetes due to power outages caused by the storms, and was unable to receive any funding due to not qualifying for supports.
The resident is now in severe hardship and is struggling to afford living expenses. Help from GIVIT and donors will assist them to get back on top of their finances after their disaster impact.
