Family with 5 children severely impacted by February 2024 storm in need of sensory items for children
Family with 5 children who were severely impacted by the February 2024 storm. Numerous trees fell on the property destroying both cars, caravan and carport as well as structural damage to the residence. Ongoing negotiations with neighbour to remove trees that have been deemed dangerous continue to be arduous. Since this event all children are displaying trauma responses with being hyper vigilant with weather apps, weather reports with the youngest choosing to sleep in a hallway as they feel this is the safest part of the home. Parents do their best to distract and calm the children during weather events though with their own trauma experience this can often be difficult. Parents feel that the use of sensory items during these times may assist the children to self-regulate therefore not further impact on their trauma already experienced. Any donation for the family to be able to purchase these items for their children would be greatly appreciated.
