The family has been staying in a friend's place because their home was badly damaged by the Christmas Storm in SEQ in 2023. Both the single father and the child has a disability. The family is on a single income and struggling financially and unable to afford basic necessities while waiting for government grants to start the repair of their home. Most of the content of their home were badly damaged or moulded due to the Storm.
