Resident has Multiple Sclerosis and recovering from cancer and removal of bladder. Extreme financial hardship exacerbated by

Resident lives with his wife and 10-year-old daughter. Resident receives a disability pension; his wife is unemployed. He was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2011. While trialling a new medical treatment he was diagnosed with cancer 5 years ago. Resident underwent surgery to remove his bladder and is now dependent on urostomy bags to drain and collect urine daily. The urostomy bags are covered by PBS but some of resident's other medication is not. Resident experiences extreme tiredness as one of the symptoms of MS. ’I drive my daughter to school, come home have a shower and then that’s pretty much it and it’s time to go pick her up again. I’m having a lot of pins and needles in one of my legs now and I can’t sit for very long. When I stand again it takes about 5-10 minutes before I can move again.’

Client advised that $470 per week rent is direct debited from his account. This leaves very little disposable income for replacement of his washing machine and fridge.
