GIVIT + IKEA and a special bedroom makeover

Who doesn’t love a good makeover story – especially such a heart-warming one that comes with before and after shots!

The First Nations Homeless Project does valuable work assisting some of the most vulnerable people in the community, and GIVIT loves coordinating donations for them.

This particular request was for assistance to refurbish a bedroom for two young girls who had recently gone through the trauma of being abused by a relative. Since the occurrence, afraid to go in their bedroom, the girls had been sleeping on a mattress elsewhere in the house, in less than ideal conditions.

GIVIT stepped up, and with the amazing support of IKEA and the family’s own handiwork with the paintbrush, the girls’ bedroom was soon transformed. New beds, mattresses and storage took care of the functional side of things, with pink bedding and fun lighting (including a bright, shiny star!), helping create a fairy-tale feel for the girls and their cuddly toys.

The mother was in tears, overwhelmed with gratitude because of the positive impact on the whole family.

Matching of specific requests with generous donors is the very reason GIVIT exists, and we were delighted to play this small part in helping a family move forward after a challenging time.

"The girls now have a 'princess' room where they feel safe and can create new, positive memories of their own 'new' room in the house until they can be relocated. Of all of the donations I've received from GIVIT - this one has had the most impact on the family and myself. It really mattered!"
